I love His timing. This morning I heard this quote on a Christian channel, and it could not have come to me at a more timely moment. I had spent the weekend wondering why the dead will simply not stay buried, nor how to get up from the graveside and go on again.
"People grow old only by deserting their ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up interest wrinkles the soul. You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear; as young as your hope, as old as your despair. In the central place of every heart, there is a recording chamber. So long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer and courage, so long are you young. When your heart is covered with the snows of pessimism and the ice of cynicism, then, and only then, are you grown old. And then indeed, as the ballad says, you just fade away." ~ General Douglas MacArthur
I realize the poetry of this song that has clung to me for too long now . . "Gravedigger . . when you dig my grave, will you make it shallow so that I can feel the rain." ~ Dave Matthews Band is not only impracical and impossible, but probably very unwise.
He is good, and He is beautiful, and He is light. And His gentle rains can nurture life again . . like nothing else ever can. I have to uncurl my fists first . . and leave them so.
