The LORD says to worship him in the beauty of holiness:
.
Psalm 96:9 "O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth."
.
Worship involves bowing down:
.
Psalm 95:6 "O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker."
.
In other words, such words as praise, singing, praying, appreciation, adoration, and the like are used in association with the word "worship" in the Bible. However, strictly speaking, and in the essence of exegesis, the term used in the Bible is almost exclusively related to "bowing down." In fact, the Hebrew word [shachah] and the Greek word [proskuneo] account for the majority of the appearances of the word "worship" in the King James Bible and almost exclusively with regard to "bowing down."
.
Obviously, we cannot bow down physically 24-7, and even if we could, the LORD looks on our hearts (1Samuel 16:7) to see if they are bowed down to him 24-7.
.
Sadly, much of what passes for worship today is really NOT worship. Worship in the Bible sense for us today is a reference to our hearts bowed down, prostrate to the LORD, in full submission to Him, and acknowledgement of His power, rule, and authority in our lives, to be done with according as He wills (the book of Revelation gives us good glimpses of this in heaven). Thus, how little of this can be found in churches and even in our own hearts and lives today.
.
Thus, worshiping the LORD involves a bowed down heart which is in submission to walk in His holiness, a holy heart, holy mind, holy hands and feet, holy words, holy conversation. Sadly however, many people believe that one day a week for a few hours is "worship." This not the case and is definitely ERROR. And the LORD would not have us walk in error:
.
2Timothy 2:15 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
.
Will we be ashamed when we stand before God? I know I will be and it is unsettling to think that I will have my life in Christ judged (not for salvation, but for how I lived my new life in Christ). However, the more we know God in His word, the more we will be like Him (Colossians 3:6). The more we are like Christ, the more we will walk in holiness. The more we walk in holiness, the more God is worshiped as our hearts and lives are bowed down to Him in holiness.
.
I'm of the firm belief through personal study and meditation that the term "worship" as used in the Bible is somewhat at odds with the direction of what some may perceive it to be. I mean no offense and am very willing to discuss this further in an honest spirit of love and investigation.
