REFLECTIONS: WHO I AM IN CHRIST

Of late I have been meditating on who I am in Christ. I am often comforted by the embracing statement in 2 Cor. 5:17, “If any man is in Christ, he is a new creation, old things have passed away, behold all things have become new.” “Any” is a wonderful qualification; it means just that – as long as anyone is in Christ - me included, s/he is a new creature. I like the idea of being new, all past is gone; it’s a new page. The bible says, God has called us into fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. This is indeed great for I have fellowship with Christ Jesus (1 Cor. 1:9) and this is a relationship to be cherished. I am Christ’s and Christ is God’s, therefore I belong to Christ and I belong to God, (1 Cor:3:18).

The challenge is to live according to what God says I am; making this a reality in my everyday life. In John 6:23, Jesus says the work of God is to believe in Him whom He sent and that “He who lives in Me will live because of Me”, vs 57. He is the bread of life. In order to live it is important that I eat this bread of life (the Word of God). I must continually eat this bread of life; studying the Word, thereby “being transformed by the renewing of my mind.” by the Word of God. Paul, writing in 1 Cor. 2:16 says, “But we have the mind of Christ” This is a great statement to be aware of. I must continually make this a reality of my daily life. We are reminded that …we are not sufficient in ourselves and that our sufficiency is from God…” 2 Cor. 3:5.Its comforting to know that we have the wonderful indwelling Spirit of God, and, “we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.” (1 Cor. 2:12). He is our ability.

Reflective Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I ask in the name of Jesus that I have a perfect awareness of who I am in Christ so that I can truly live a life worthy of Your name and that Your presence in me is demonstrated.
