Jesus said that God is within us and we need to see beyond our limiting self in order to connect with Him within. Non-believers interpret it in different ways, seeing their oneness with the cosmos or as a quantum thing; not seeing God, but merely matter.
Unfortunately there are also those within Christianity who want to divert us from a personal connection with God by encouraging us to seek outside rather than within. The outside is merely the world and physical universe, the domain of the Adversary. They have self made governments at stake.
By looking within, we are doing as was originally intended with us. God designed us to work through us. The angels on the other hand it seems, were designed to follow orders from the outside. Unfortunately, just as some of the angels became rebellious, we too became rebellious. By the original sin of putting our will ahead of the will of God, we came to know the inner workings of the universe, that it consisted of opposites. We came to know good and evil, but more so we came to know ourselves. We became self aware unlike our brethren creations. That led to living for self and all of it's 'sinful' actions such as self interest, self determination, self justification, etc.. In living in a way opposite to the nature of God, we effectively cut ourselves off from Him and He no longer worked through us as our own self serving will had become more important to us than His.
So God spent many millennia telling us how we should live under these circumstances of our choosing in order to overcome the consequences of our self absorbency. He even wrote it down so we wouldn't forget. Few listened. Along comes Jesus to up the ante. He taught us to reject our nature of self and to repent of it in favour of putting the will of God ahead of our own will. (Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.) Those who do so become eligible for a new world free of the repercussions of self will in this backwards one, but more importantly we can have a personal relationship with God again as we allow Him to work through us once again.
We simply have to see beyond the limiting flesh and return to living in the spirit as a proper hybrid. He called it being born again, from one way of thinking to another. As mentioned however, there are those, not just outside of it, but within the fold who having not themselves repented as of yet. They still prefer to act as minions to the Adversarial spirit of self, diverting us from the governance/Kingdom of God and keeping us under the governance of man in all its forms, from national to religious. Yes the universe is within us and we are one with it being of the same matter, but all of it is God and we each are but extensions of Him and not separate. Use discernment in knowing who you are.
Matthew 23: 13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
