When King David had Israel bring up the Ark of the Covenant, so that it could be placed in the
Tent of Meeting in Jerusalem, David passed the test of zeal for the Lord (2 Samuel 6:14-22). David had such uninhibited joy that his wife was not discerning enough to appreciate his devotion.
David did not possess a timid spirit before God, such as the kind displayed by the children of Israel at the foot of Mount Sinai (Exodus 20:18-21). Instead, his was the exuberance of worshiping God at Mt. Zion (the latter being synonymous with Jerusalem (see Psalms 53:2 and Hebrews 12:18-24).
There is much prophetic imagery concerning the Ark that was transported up that day (Hebrews 9:3-5): the mercy seat, Aaron’s rod, the tablets with the Ten Commandments, samples of the manna from Heaven.
David and most of Jerusalem were excited about the imminent placement of the Ark inside the Tent of Meeting, representing God’s presence amidst His people. They were about to host the Lord God Almighty, his Shekinah Glory (albeit that God is omnipresent)! As application for Christians today, are we openly, joyfully and wholly hosting the Presence of God within the Body of Christ (the Church) and within our hearts? In 1 Corinthians 6:19, the Apostle Paul poses the challenge to us: “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” (KJV)
Will you host the Presence of the Lord?
(Dust from David’s dancing has yet to hit the floor!).
All of God’s servants are, in one accord,
the Tent of Meeting where God is adored.
When you have Presence, commandment comes,
conscience and Mercy Seat sprinkled by Lamb’s blood.^
Thus, faith empowers each co-celebrant,
thanks to the flowering rod with High Priestly scent.^^
