I stress. You stress. We all stress for icecream! Ok, maybe not for icecream, but it certainly has been used as a stress reducer by many! But what is stress really? What is it about and why do we do it?
So many Christians have questions about their life and if they don't have the answers to all of them, they sit back and worry about it. They chew their fingernails to the bone (which is a horrible habit compared to smoking! Ok, not really
), worrying about things which adds to more and more stress.
But I think it's more of a lack of faith problem than anything. I mean, right now I' going through a trial here in Texas. A few weeks ago, we didn't know if we would have enough food to last us until our next check came in. We worried about it! And yes, the food did run out and when our cabinets where bare, we cried and thought we would surely starve.
But we know God better than that, don't we? At least we should. What promises does He make in His word about taking care of His children? You may not be rich or have over abundance, but God PROMISES you that you'll never go without your basic needs. Somehow, we managed to eat and were taken care of up until the money came.
I have so many friends who worry themselves horribly because they don't think they will make that month's rent. They see how much money is in the account vs. how much they owe and do not understand it. But the amazing thing is, they make it month after month! The bills get paid and they even have a little extra to go out to eat with or see a movie. How is this possible? It doesn't add up!! But God doesn't always make sense, does He?
You may not have always gotten everything you wanted or had a "yes" answer to every prayer, but look back at all the times you were so worried about whether or not you were going to make it and see how many times you did.
See, stress is caused by lack of faith that God will pull us through the difficult trials we face. If you have truly given yourself to God, then (and I quote a friend of mine, hope it's not copyrighted
) stop worrying about it and go make some jello! He's got your back! He is in complete 100% control of everything that goes on in your life.
Yes you will face trials and some of it will hurt, but it is when you're facing the most difficult things and you are pulled through by God's grace that faith is really born. It is in those trials alone that you are brought closer to Him.
