One of my favorite verses in the bible, though I have no clue where to find it, is this:
"God does not give us a spirit of fear, but of peace, love and a sound mind."
I think this verse is significant because it makes me ask the question...who are we listening to? That still small voice from God? Or the voice of that nasty, dirty devil? I know a lot of Christians who aren't exactly walking around with spirit of peace, love and a sound mind. Actually, hardly any Christians I know have peace that surpasses understanding, feel an unconditional love and have a sound mind about it!
In fact, if you go through all the blogs here at CF, I'm willing to bet that more then 90% of them is somebody complaining about SOMETHING. Some people could write a hundred blogs and they would all have the same theme of fear, guilt, pain and sadness. We walk around with our heads down low, thinking we're the biggest pieces of garbage to ever walk the earth.
I should know, because I've spent most of my life thinking I was nothing more than a hideous, fat, burden on everyone I ever came in contact with. Nobody loved me. I lived in a world of pain, abuse and had a lack of purpose.
In the past few weeks, I had a major revelation. I'm listening to the wrong voice. That pain, fear and guilt we've all been feeling isn't coming from God! God doesn't give us a spirit of fear! If I'm feeling ANYTHING other than peace, love and a sound mind, or the fruit of the Spirit, it's from something else!
People often wonder why God has forsaken them, why they're so sad, why doesn't God step in already and make them feel better. The truth is: HE HAS! You're just choosing to listen to the wrong voice. The bad voice. The horrible voice. The voice of the one who thrives on tearing us down, picking us apart and leaving us for dead. The devil doesn't care a single thing about us, but we CHOOSE to listen to his voice over the only voice that matters: GOD'S!
Now why is that? Maybe it's easier to believe we're garbage, hang our heads and weep, throw a pity party and somebody will give us attention. But I've learned that God doesn't give into our pity parties. Because if you believe you're horrible and not worth a penny, then you CHOOSE to believe it!
Again, the TRUTH of the matter is how VALUABLE you are to God. You are a child of God, a prince or a princess, the inheriter of His kingdom! JESUS CHRIST DIED for YOU! He gave up HIS life, that's how FREAKING valueable you are to God...He gave his SON to YOU. He was torn down and punished so you can be rewarded and gifted. God loves you so much, He knows everything about YOU. He knew YOU before you were put together in your mother's womb and while you were hanging out for those nine months, HE wove you together. You are not a mistake. You are not a piece of garbage. God does not think you are ugly. He doesn't even see your sins because of everything Jesus did on the cross.
SO STOP HANGING YOUR HEAD ALREADY! Stop listening to that "other" voice. God is knocking and says, "peace, love and a sound mind are yours! But you must choose it and stop listening to the enemy!" But, we choose to ignore it.
I don't know, maybe we live in a world that says you must look like a supermodel to be loved. You must own the biggest mansion and have millions of dollars to be happy. In order to have peace, you must be the most popular person on the face of the planet. One of these days it may actually hit you that beauty is vain, you can't serve both mammon and God and it's the meek who inherit the earth. Maybe you're seeking after a false sense of true happiness and because you can't reach it, well you must be pathetic...right?
Happiness doesn't come with the world. Only more pain. You see how happy the rich and famous are, don't you? *rolls eyes* you know they're miserable, but won't be happy unless you're just like them? You see, the earth is not your home. You're just passing through! Real riches are what you gain in the kingdom of heaven. And while you spend your millisecond here on earth, the devil is going to tell you all about how miserable you should really be.
Me? Well I'm not going to believe it any longer. I'm going to choose to stand up, not sulk. I will wear a smile on my face, not a frown. I may not have everything I want, but I truly have everything I need! It's God that will sustain my happiness! It's through Him that I will find my peace! And in Him I will trust to get me through, which gives me a sound mind. I'm free from worry, free from burden, free from guilt.
Jesus gave His life so we can live! So, why not live already!
