What is the opposite of love? Sin...

Posted from my blogspot.com blog:
Meum Iter: What is the opposite of love? Sin...

In continuing what I was pondering yesterday, I came back to my old trusty passage. I Cor 13:4-8.

13:4 Love is patient, love is kind, it is not envious. Love does not brag, it is not puffed up. 13:5 It is not rude, it is not self-serving, it is not easily angered or resentful. 13:6 It is not glad about injustice, but rejoices in the truth. 13:7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
13:8 Love never ends.

It defines what love is. What else do we know about love?

1 John 4:8 The person who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

God is love.

So, we know God hates sin. Yesterday, I concluded that all sin can be boiled down to selfishness. So, is selfishness the opposite of love? Let's use a mathematical formula against my theory, using the biblical references above and find out:

Opposite of 1 Corinthians 13:
Love is patient, while being impatient is selfish
Love is kind while being unkind is selfish
Love is not envious while being envious is selfish.
Love does not brag, while bragging is quite selfish. Tooting your own horn is a hallmark of selfishness
Love is not puffed up, while being puffed up is quite selfish. It is very self serving
Love is not rude, while being rude is selfish. When you are rude, you are not being very empathetic or sympathetic. You only care how you are feeling at that moment.
Love is not easily angered. Quick to anger is a form of being selfish. Quick to anger lacks the discipline to look at the full picture before pulling the trigger on ager.
Love is respectful, while being disrespectful is quite selfish. Again, when you are disrespectful, you are not being very empathetic or sympathetic. You only care how you are feeling at that moment.
Love is not glad about injustice. If you are happy when an injustice occurs, you are only caring about your own point of view, and not about being fair and balanced.
Love rejoices in the truth. Back to one of the commandments. The opposite of truth is lies. A lie is selfish and self serving to the max. They are afraid of the consequences of the truth, so they spin it to get of it.
Love bears all things. Being selfish there is only room for a part of 1 (yourself)
Love believes all things. Back to lies and deceptions.
Love hopes all things. You lose hope when you get tunnel vision and you only see your issues, your problems.
Love endures all things. Selfishness is only going to endure yourself (back to part of 1.)
Love never ends. Selfishness does have an end, because you will only always want more and more and more and more, and one day, you will find you cannot attain anymore. Selfishness can only destroy.

Lastly, 1 John 4:8 ... God is love.

What is the opposite of God? Satan and Antichrist. Satan fell because he had selfish ambitions. He wanted to do things his own way. He didn't want to continue to submit to God. He fell because he had lofty *selfish* ambitions.

Selfishness IS sin.
