They found this place to be better than expected at first look. There were useful herbs, and some edible tubers, growing in areas nearby. They had lots of seeds they had brought, and this was the place where they should start planting again.
Temporary shelters still had to be made right away for immediate use, while materials would be gathered and there would be permanent structures they would build for where they would live.
Before any of this and even before they ate any of the berries or any of the already ripe olives that were right by there, the whole group gathered together to give thanks to Yahweh for this place they came to that would be good to stay at, and to appeal for blessings and pledging to be faithful to the ways they were shown.
