Week 23 - Secret police, and smoke and mirrors

I've been watching the news about immigration, and how they are grabbing folks up at court who are following the law, and grabbing them up when they come for their appointments with immigration, and off the street. This image came up on Facebook:

Are we just suppose to believe they are ICE and not vigilantes or sex traffickers or something else unsavory? I read a story the other day of a pregnant wife of an American citizen being grabbed and held in immigration. She began having abdominal pains and ended up miscarrying while her legs were shackled to the floor in her cell. Do you think any of the 'pro-life' crowd cares? I don't think so.
It is all about the cruelty.
This is the beginning of the secret police which authoritarians like.
The other hot topic this week is the big ugly bill that the Republicans want to pass. Robert Reich posted this cartoon on Facebook today:

HE also posted this - though I had to cut out part of the image due to CF's profanity rule:

Per an editorial written in the Times Union, the big bill will really hurt most of us.

"We wrote earlier about how this bill would effectively kick 9.8 million low-income people off Medicaid, raise out-of-pocket health care costs for people barely above the poverty line, and likely destroy the Affordable Care Act with no plan to replace it.
Overall, its provisions would result in a transfer of wealth from the lowest-income Americans to the richest while tossing a pittance to the middle class, and the unnecessary ascent of our already-soaring national debt.
This legislation is also notable for one thing it doesn’t do: address the looming insolvencies of Social Security and the Hospital Insurance portion of Medicare......
A Penn Wharton Budget Model analysis found that the poorest households — those earning less than $17,000 a year — would lose about $820 a year. Those under $51,000 would lose an average of $430. Those losses get worse over time.
In contrast, the very highest earners — those taking in more than $4.325 million a year — would enjoy an average after-tax income boost of $390,000......
But the Congressional Budget Office found that it would raise deficits, and consequently the national debt, by $3 trillion — including more than $550 billion through 2034 in interest alone."
But those poor, poor rich people need more money for their yachts and extra homes and expensive clothes. The little people can just die. (that is sarcasm for those who don't read it that way).
Luke 16:13 “No [fn]servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and [fn]wealth.”
