Week 14- It feels like a year already

This was the best picture of the week:

^_^^_^^_^ Have to get laughs when we can, as this administration is anything but funny or good. Apparently other folks are seeing it that way, too, as Trump's approval rating is dropping. Multiple polls show Trump has having the lowest rating at the 100 day mark of any President since WWII. A majority of Americans disapprove of the way he is handling the economy, foreign affairs, and some showing disapproval for his actions regarding immigration.

One thing not funny or good this week is the report that Pete Hegseth had an unsecured line in his Pentagon office in order to bypass government protocols meant to protect the US from foreign spying.

ABC News also reported that Hegseth had what is known as a “dirty line” – what IT professionals call a commercial internet line that is used to connect to websites blocked by the Pentagon’s unclassified and classified lines. Defense department computers connect to the internet through two different systems: SiprNet – or secure internet protocol router network, which is the Pentagon’s network for classified information – and NiprNet – the non-classified internet protocol router network, which handles unclassified information.

It is possible that sensitive defense data is vulnerable to hacking because of this.
How ignorant! It is scary. And yet, Trump is keeping him on. Pete Hegseth personal phone, the one used recently using Signal and talkin about the strike on the Houthis is also found all over the place- social media, fantasy sports leagues, all over. This is another security concern.

Cybersecurity analysts said an American defense secretary’s communications device would usually be among the most protected national security assets.
“There’s zero percent chance that someone hasn’t tried to install Pegasus or some other spyware on his phone,” Mike Casey, the former director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, said in an interview. “He is one of the top five, probably, most targeted people in the world for espionage.”

Emily Harding, a defense and security expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, added: “You just don’t want the secretary of defense’s phone number to be out there and available to anyone.”

A second unfunny thing is how prices are going. Trump lies about egg prices as they are as high as ever. CNBC reports that many merchants on Amazon are raising prices because of tariffs. Finding comparable items at low cost in other countries or in the US is hard.

A third unfunny thing was Trump at the funeral for Pope Francis. This is the first pope I really liked and admired. He had a very caring, compassionate, and humble way about him. There was a dress code for the funeral - wear black. Men were to wear black suits and black ties. But there was Trump - blue suit and blue tie. Stood right out and was viewed as disrespecting the Pope. The Daily Beast reported that Melania had to prompt Trump to shake hands during the Sign of Peace portion of the funeral service. Melania looked and behaved respectfully which was good to see.

A fourth unfunny thing is the state of the US economy, which is not the same as the Stock Market. In the last 90 days, Trump has been tearing things up. Foreign investment firms are pulling out of US equities such as the Magnificent Seven tech stocks and selling off bonds. We are in recession territory though it takes 2 quarters of negative growth to declare a recession. Many economists state we are already in a recession. When Trump took over, our economy was great, and poised to take a soft landing if there was to be a recession. Not now. Dems warned about this.

May God help us.
