From its first words, the bible lays down the battle lines...
Gen 1v1: In the beginning, God created the heavens & the Earth...."
Pick a side - Creation or evolution.
But not all Christians either (a) take it seriously or (b) dont 100% believe what it says on the page
Try this, Ken Ham, one of the leading advocates for a biblical account of creation is coming to London, 2 nights... this guy is at the head of his game and knows his stuff. Not only the science of where evolution becomes a house of cards, but how important the Gospel is to creation. So I printed out a few schedules for the talks and tried to share it with a few folks in church (Sunday night). Folks there either didn't know of answers in genesis or Ken Ham (OK, not the end of the world, but a bit worrying), or thought that creation was "a side issue". That second response worried me, because if you don't take seriously the first Adam, you have to question what these people think of the Last Adam. And if you don't think the sin of our first father was serious, then Rom 5v17 is pretty hollow for you "For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ."
Second, met a friend on the bus to work - godly fellow, but has bought into the idea of `The Gap theory`, trying to push evolution into the Gen 1 creation account by putting a spin on "the day started on the Third day when the sun & moon was created". OK, I can see (to a point) where you get that, but it is a real stretch of the verse. I'm not going to trying and push this through him, but I will go and marshal my thoughts, refine my arguement and get them on a concise paper.
I was musing - this it is not going to go away in a hurry.
