Hi everyone! Today I'd like to show you how to make a creative project: a fabric picture! These are pretty easy to make and can be used for decoration. A good project for beginners at sewing! Kids may also enjoy this project, however, make sure an adult handles the cutting since the scissors need to be sharp. This project should be sewn by hand. As an alternative, you could also make the same project by gluing the pieces on instead of sewing them and using other methods of decorating it.
For one fabric picture you will need:
The first thing you need to do is think about what kind of picture you want to make and what colors to use. Once you decide, cut out all the pieces you'll need. For the background cut out a square or whatever shape you want it to be. For the other pieces, use the marking tool to draw them onto the fabric before cutting them, if desired.
Now that you have your fabric pieces, it's time to begin sewing them on. Sew around the edges of each piece using a straight stitch to attach them in the desired places. Go around the edges twice so they are entirely sewn. Sew the details onto the pieces before sewing them to the background, like the middles of the flowers on mine. For details like the leaves on the flowers, place both of them onto the background, sew the flower first, and then sew the leaves.
Now for the finishing touches - use the thread that is lighter or darker than the background and sew around the edges with a straight stitch. Cut a small hole in the middle of the background near the top for hanging and sew around it with the same thread, using a straight stitch. For extra details like the sunlight, use a straight stitch in the color you want to embroider them.
Congrats, your fabric picture is done! Hang it on a wall or give it to someone you care about so it can be enjoyed!
Materials
For one fabric picture you will need:
- Fabric in all the colors you want to use; (I recommend felt because it's cheap and easy to sew, plus the pieces tend to kind of stick together making them easier to sew in place; fleece would also work) Unless you're making a really big picture, you don't need much
- Hand-sewing thread in all the colors you're using except the background, plus a color lighter or darker than the background
- Hand-sewing needles
- Sharp scissors
- Pencil or other marking tool
