My name is Graidon, and, as the title suggests, I'm an Atheist. Your first question might be, "Why would an atheist be blogging on a Christian website?" It's a valid question, and there are many reasons.
First, again as the title suggests, I want to put my own beliefs to the test. It is not my intention to insult or degrade Christianity, but I will assert my beliefs here, and they will likely not be congruent with the those of you, the readers. It is my intention to learn more about myself by exposing my ideas to an opposing audience. Through obstacles and challenges all of us grow. I am here to invite that challenge.
Secondly, I want to learn more about the Christian community in general. I've seen a lot of different kinds of Christians portrayed in various media: books, movies, documentaries, televised sermons, etcetera, and, while I've liked and respected some, I've also regarded others as truly ignorant, petty, aweful human beings. I'm here to formulate my own opinion of the Christian church based on personal experiences, not the research of someone else.
There are, of course, more reasons here and there for this blog, but those are the main ones.
Now, what I'm going to do is make an assertion of my beliefs that I expect will meet with opposition, and I invite everyone who reads this blog to add their thoughts. Like I said, I'm here to be disagreed with. We'll start with the big one.
Let's, for a moment, assume that God does exist. Let's use these facts as givens:
-God is omniscient (he knows everything)
-God is omnipotent (he's all powerful)
-God is of perfect moral character
Now. I think we can all agree that great evils do exist on planet Earth. We have terrorists killing thousands of people at major cities, we have corporate and governmental corruption running amok, and we have racism, sexism, and all sorts of other -isms running rampant through society. Now, due to His omniscience, God is aware of all this evil. Due to His omnipotence, He is easily capable of fixing it. Finally, due to His perfect moral character, He is obligated to do just that.
Now, unless someone contests one of the three above facts, this proves that God does not exist, because these great evils of the world have not miraculously vanished.
Thus, I assert that God does not exist.
Have fun, folks!
