The definitions for space include 1) a period of time, 2) a limited extent in one, two or three dimensions, 3) an extent set apart, 4) the distance needed from other people or things in order for a person to feel comfortable, 5) an opportunity for privacy or time for one's self. I prefer to see space as a sanctuary, or haven, that allows me to nurture my core and tune in to my own self. Now, quite obviously, the use of this space is something to use for nurturing, and not for escape. Eventually we all have to come out. They will come looking for us...
But, time within our own inner haven, spent in regrouping, refreshing and rebalancing ourselves is time well spent. Too often we (ie. ME) feel guilty if we take "me time". With so much time spent working, communting, cooking, cleaning, blah, blah,blah... we tend to feel any and all extra time should be wholely and solely directed to the others in our lives. Take some time to set a weekly meeting with yourself. It may sound difficult at first, who has the time these days for themselves??? We all do! Even if it is only a beginning 15 minutes, schedule it in. Take a short drive to a park, sit quietly in your office (if this is possible), take a back booth in a coffee shop - just take that 15 minutes! Use the time to reenergize and positively focus on whatever takes you to your relaxation state of mind.
