Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others
Philippians 2:3-4
Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
Romans 12:10
There is a woman I know who knows "everything"...(pardon the sarcasm). No matter what subject is brought up, she'll sit right there in front of everyone and anyone and "know" everything there is to know about anything!! My assumption is that she's been this way for so long, she probably believes she is omnipotent! She'll "compete" verbally with anyone on just about any subject because she is convinced she "knows" and somewhere inside her she "HAS" to be "right"!!
Most folks around these parts won't even talk to her anymore accept a civil "hello" now and then because NO ONE wants to be drawn into a debate they "know" they'll lose!!
One of my Husband's sayings, "The more I know, the more I know I don't know"! This was a trait that attracted me to him, "Oh my GOSH, a man who admits he doesn't know it all" I thought!! I've adopted that saying as well, because...It's the truth! None of us "know it all"!
I can tell you as a mother of 6 (8 if you count the Hub's!!) I do "know" more than anyone should have to about head lice!! But I'm also humble enough that I'll bet there is someone else out there, besides the Lord who knows more than I do about head lice!
When I sit and talk to folks, about whatever, if they say something I don't know, I have no problem saying, "really, I didn't know that"! or, "wow, I learn something new every day"! Sit back and watch people when their having conversations and see just how many will admit out loud "hey I didn't know that" and how many you see arguing they knew it every conversation, every subject!
Unfortunatly your going to find that 99% of the time (even if they didn't "know") they'll profess they do and use it as a tool to "debate" which is just a nicer word for "argue"!!
What does it take to admit that "the more I know, the more I know I don't know"? It takes dropping your self pride, and why wouldn't you want to, self pride (the majority) is just another evil way to be "selfish". We're not here to be "selfish", we're here to be "selfless", to help others, to lift one another up...Self pride puts down others, falsely and temporarily lifts you up but ultimately does absolutely no good, and if we are here to do "good works" then self pride is absolutely useless!!
Today- "the more I know, the more I know I don't know"!!
Have a "selfless" day in Christ Jesus my friends!
