And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. – Luke 9:10-11
Jesus and His disciples were tired and needed rest. But the multitudes needed teaching and healing. So what did Jesus do? He welcomed them, taught them, and healed them. This is what Jesus’ ministry was all about. Jesus welcomed every kind of sinner that there was. He didn’t seek out just certain people and ignore others. He had compassion for all. He didn’t care where people ranked in society. His ministry was open to anyone who would receive it. Churches today seem to have a problem with taking in certain people who they don’t believe ranks as high as they do. This is a big problem. The church must image Jesus. We are the body of Christ. We must serve as He served and do as He did. We have to be willing to receive everyone. This is the bottom line. This is Jesus.
