What if you were the only person in the entire universe who was a Christian? What if your own ancestors, who have seen Jesus shed his blood and come alive again, had even denied that Jesus is the Messiah? What if your friends made fun of you because you read the Bible and prayed to God, the only LORD? How would you feel?
Luckily for us, we're not the only Christians in the world. God has given us Christians in our schools, our jobs, our neighborhoods, even our shopping centers. The question is: will you reach out to them?
I want to share a story with you that explains how important it is to make Christian friends. Last year, I was persecuted for being a Christian. My own friends would call me a Jesus freak and criticize EVERYTHING I DID. My one friend Eric was the only Christian friend I had at school that I saw regularly. Unfortunately, he is attending a special program, so he is hundreds of miles away.
So...here I am at school with no Christian friends within reach. What am I to do? I want to start a Christian Club, so I ask my friend Steve{who works for Youth For Christ, a group that helps students start Christian Clubs in their schools} to help me. And guess what he tells me? WE ALREADY HAVE A CHRISTIAN CLUB.
He also mentions that the student advisor is a guy named Jordan. The funny thing is: I totally know this guy. But he never struck me as the Christian type. Sure, he was nice, but hey, not every nice person HAS to be a Christian.
So eventually, God made a way, and we talked. It turns out he is like hardcore Christian. Like, he attends youth group every week and he prays and reads the Bible and he's even on the praise team at church!
{I bet you're wondering...Liz, why in the world wouldn't you know that THIS guy was a Christian? He has Christian written all over him!! The answer: I didn't even bother to try talking to him. In fact, he talked to me first.}
Anyway, Jordan starts text-messaging me, and he asks me to his youth group right away. He just asks me how I am, and then he's like ohh you're a Christian come to youth group. [Thank the LORD he was that outgoing!!!]
When I went to his church, I realized it was significantly different from my church. I ended up learning so much about my relationship with Christ, and it was all because God gave my friend the courage to start talking to me. Praise be to God!
So, brothers and sisters, I urge you: TALK TO EVERYONE!! You are going to feel this invisible barrier, but just go for it!!! I have complete and utter faith in you guys!! Have a great day.
