Before the chick, no broken shell
Before the tree, no seed
Yet ere the day creation fell
The devil planted weed
The devil sows his germ of shame
To flourish deep within
A residue to Adam’s blame
A monument to sin
This weed continues to be found
In such a vast array
It thrives so wild in sinful ground
When God we disobey
Surprising how such filth can spread
From but the smallest lies
Once found in man’s deceitful bed
How quick, it multiplies
On Satan’s weed when standing tall
Death’s worm can grow so well
It eats, until it brings to fall
And often down to hell
Through wayward thoughts it blossoms free
Bears fruit in gross deceit
Even the strongest fail to see
When Satan comes to cheat
But when a soul’s in Jesus’ hand
We learn the foe to fight
We see the truth and understand
Hell’s weed can’t grow in light
Repent the evil that you do
Confess each evil deed
Receive Christ’s Light, with life anew
Then see God burn the weed.
