The Serpent and The Swan
Both graceful in movement
Cunning and swift
Serpent is arrogant and angry
Swan is proud, vain, and territorial
Swan falls in love with the Serpent
Setting aside her desire to run from him
Swan forgets that she is prey
As she slowly slips into Serpents deadly trap
Serpent thinks nothing of Swan
His flesh calls out for her blood
Angry and impatient, he waits for her to come to him
Just to spring his fatal bite
Swan, dropping her defenses
Does not see the death that lies before her
Too attracted to the idea
That any male would give his life for her's
(Even to a reptilian deathtrap)
Close enough to smell her vulnerability
Serpent flashes one more wrongful smile
Close enough to lunge, he takes his pose
and strikes!
Swan emerges from his attack hurt and bleeding
Serpent leaves with her heart in his jaws
Floating above the surface of the cold dark lake
Swan dies alone and heartless
