The mock trial of the resurrection of Christ (page 3)

Attorney for the Plaintiff: "Objection your honor." The council for the defense neglects the ancient Jewish understanding of how the first three days apply to the body of the deceased."

Judge: "Please enlighten us." "Afterwhich I will determine if I should over rule or sustain your motion."

Attorney for the Plaintiff: "Thank you your honor."

Attorney for the Plantiff: "Council for the Defense neglects to study the ancient Jewish writings to see how they understood the importance of the 3rd day of a person's death. The ancient Jews believed that until the 3rd day, a person's spirit hept on returning to the grave, thinking that it can go back ito the body. But when it sees that the facial features have become disfigured, it departs and abandons the body. They came to this understanding from (Job.14:22) This teaching is found in their Gen. [C:7 (994) ]

The ancient Jews had a civil law that said a person could only identify a corpse if it had not been dead past the 3rd day. The reason being that the face is only recognizable up to no later than the 3rd day. This teaching is found in their Midrash and Mishna (Leviticus [XVIII:1 (225-226)]

So we see that Psalms 16:10 can only be understood by keeping in mind the 3rd day of death. After the 3rd day the Holy One would have seen corruption. His flesh would have seen corruption or decay, per many Bible translations."

Judge: "In otherwords, it would have been counterproductive for the Jewish Apostles and other New Testament preachers and teachers to leave out the 3rd day timeframe when they were addressing their Jewish audiences?"

Attorney for the Plaintiff: "That is correct your honor"

Judge: "I now have a better understanding why it was repeated so many times in the New Testament." "Objection is sustained." "We will hear no further complaints from the Defense concerning the 3rd day issue."

Attorney for the Defense: "Well for about 50 days, according to the book of Acts, this resurrected Jesus showed Himself to no one outside His close circle of followers. His tomb wasn't venerated as it most certainly would have been if Jesus' physical body would have been brought back from the dead. All the historical evidence for His resurrection is circumstantial evidence. To many, this just is not enough."
