I've been trying to go to Reconciliation every week now. (I prefer the term Reconciliation over Confession, because Confession is what you're doing, but Reconciling yourself to the Father is the purpose). This week, one thing I confessed was that, when I was being genorous, giving stuff away, I was sometimes doing it not because I was trying to be good, but because I just wanted the reward. I'll quote what the priest told me the best the Holy Spirit wants me to remember:
"When you were talking about your motives...we are complicated creatures. We have a thousand motives behind everything we do, and anyone who says otherwise is really just fooling themselves. The important thing is that you're doing good."
