What should we remember in times of ethical crisis? Jesus summed it up in two commandments. We are selfish, self-serving individuals. When we put God's will first, we must then change (repent) of such behaviour. Loving all, not just self, means we must not only consider others in times of their need, but more importantly realize when they antagonize us or others, that we all walk the same path. Some have either been misled or mislead through what the world, not the Kingdom, has taught all of us.
We all sin the original sin of self-interest. Pity others as we would pity ourselves for our misunderstandings, compliments of the world's/mankind's teachings . The Kingdom is a counter-culture to the ways of man and no one can claim complete righteousness, even when we see and understand the right path. When is the last time you allowed an undeserving soul to cut into your lane in traffic, as an example. When was the last time you took sides over policies of man and practiced human divisiveness? Our instinctive nature that feeds 'self' is strong. Serving God and others is an antidote.
