The flood was one of the greatest world-changing event in that it almost destroyed all life on earth. In fact, there was only a handful of humans (around 7 to 8) and about 2 of every animal. Of the clean animals, however, God made Noah bring 7 of each kind. When Noah was done with the ark, God had him board the ship with his family and the animals and then God closed the door to the ship and started the rain. It rained for forty days and nights. At the send of the rain, Noah sent out birds to check for dry land, there was no success until the third time, when a dove return with an olive leaf. Then the fourth time, the dove did not return, and Noah knew the water had left.
