The Death Within.

Seldom after hurricanes or other tragic incidences, we hear stories of heroes who sacrificed their lives for someone else, even for a stranger. I am always intrigued by stories like that. As far as I am concerned, I might willingly give up my life for my little girl and that’s that, I must even think twice about my husband. But look, here Paul is exclaiming how his death is a gain for Corinthians. How painstakingly but with the most certainty Paul declares, “So then death is working in us, but life in you.” (2 Corinthians 4:12).

Thank God, we are not all destined to die like Paul or other martyrs. Yet, often I am reminded that as believers we are, “always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.” Death to ourselves, our pride, our comfort, even our well-deserved right to freedom, and pursuit of happiness.

Now and then, we come to the cross roads of carrying death to ourselves, our pride, our comfort, our happiness, our time to relax, so the splendid life of Jesus maybe manifested in our body for an unsaved soul to behold.

And, let me give you a secret. When you feel the excruciating pain of the little pride (need for comfort or right to happiness) in yourself dies, claim this truth with me, “we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:18). Don’t we have a Savior, Who modeled this to the fullest!
