yeah bedknobs and broomsticks has to be my favorite muvee ever! but when they sang the "age of not believeing" song i began wondering whether or not i still believe and my ponderings went on from there. heres the song:
When you rush around in hopeless circles
Searching ev'rywhere for something true
You're at the age of not believing
When all the "make believe" is through
When you set aside your childhood heroes
And your dreams are lost up on a shelf
You're at the age of not believing
And worst of all you doubt yourself
You're a castaway where no one hears you
On a barren isle in a lonely sea
Where did all the happy endings go?
Where can all the good times be?
You must face the age of not believing
Doubting ev'rything you ever knew
Until at last you start believing
There's something wonderful...
Truly wonderful in you
the song is about that age when children finally lay their fairytale books down for the last time and begin to grow up. the magic goes away and the world no longer holds that wonder it used to. what a terrible thing to do to a child. its the fairytales and the magic and the wonder that make this world worth living in.
when you leave fairytales on a shelf and forget/forsake the magic within i believe you lose a part of yourself along with it. the world is not meant to be borring or understood. it is not meant to be stoic and drab. its meant to be exciting, awe inspiring, wonderous, breath taking, moving, shaking, intriguing, questioned, not nessecarily answered, adventurous, rebellious, exotic, tested, animated, dynamic, and above all magical!
"take chances! make mistakes! get messy!" to quote my favorite frizzy red headed teacher. why does the magic have to end? i hope i never have to see a world where all the wonder has been sucked out of it. not all things are meant to be understood. when clouds stop making amusing shapes and all you see is a collection of water particles in the air....youve stopped believing. when stars are no longer beautiful and you no longer find their faint twinkle awe inspiring....youve stopped believing.
