some thoughts on redemption

What mankind cannot do, God accomplished by sending His Son – our Lord Jesus Christ, Who Himself knew no sin and deserved no punishment (2 Corinthians. 5:21) – to pay the ransom that satisfies the retributive demands of divine justice with the shedding of His own righteous blood. This voluntary sacrifice - ransom, reconciliation, redemption, propitiation - is a substitutionary transaction that makes justification possible for all who put their trust in the person and merit of Jesus Christ, God the Son, on the cross (Matthew 20:28; 1 Peter 1:18-21; Romans 3:21-26; John 12:31; Ephesians 1:7-10; Colossians 2:13-15; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21). At Calvary, Jesus suffered God's wrath for the sins of those who believe and call upon His name. John 3:36; Romans 10:13; 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16). To "believe in" Jesus is a wholehearted trust in Him alone for the forgiveness of sins and a decision to forsake one's sin or to "repent". To "believe in" Jesus is trusting that He is not just a man in ancient history but the living Lord and Savior who knows our hearts and hears our prayers today. All who truly repent and believe in Jesus Christ will be redeemed (Matthew 16:24; Mark 1:15; Luke 24:46-47; John 1:12) and reconciled to a right relationship with God. (Romans 5:1-2,8-11; Titus 3:3-7; Colossians 1:20; 2:13-14) Salvation is by God's grace alone, through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. Man contributes nothing to his redemption, bringing only the need for grace, the free gift, and empty hands (Ephesians 2:8-10). Through faith in Jesus Christ, sinners become "the righteousness" of God in Him who was "made sin" for them (2 Corinthians 5:21).

"And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved" Acts 4:12. "I am the way, the truth and the life; No one comes to the Father but through me" John 14:6. "In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory. " Ephesians 1:13-14.
