Not long ago, I was asked in a thread (which has now been deleted) what the holy spirit had shown me. Anticipating the deletion, I saved my response, as I thought it might be useful to others at some point. I'm posting it below for that purpose, slightly edited for context.
--------------------------------------------------
We (the holy spirit and I) have been together for quite a while, so there is far too much to post here.
Some highlights -- and please understand that while I may have learned some about the things I mention, there is still much more for me to learn. At no point do I feel I will ever be able to say that I "know" anything, with the single exception of the fact that I *know* that Jesus is Lord, and even here, I can feel that there are depths and implications to this that I have yet to understand and experience.
These are all things that I live and apply as his spirit directs when opportunities arise.

- Wisdom from God is free for the asking, regardless of time, place, circumstances, or any other consideration. (James 1:5)
- As Jesus did only what he saw our Father doing (John 5:19), so it is possible for us to do likewise.
- We may receive forgiveness for any sin at any time simply by confessing it and believing that he has forgiven us and made us pure. (1 John 1:9) I love these simple promises.
- We who have the holy spirit have the same power and authority he gave to his disciples, though not all are called to use all abilities. (Matthew 10:8, John 14:12, and much of 1 Corinthians 12)
- He has given me some understanding of what it means to be a male or a female and how the two are designed to be together in harmony. This has helped immensely when working with couples and individuals with relationship issues.
- Listening to others is an exceptionally important ability to cultivate. With time and practice (and/or discernment or other gifts), it is possible to hear beyond what a person is saying to what they are not able to say.
- One can only help another to the depth he (or she) has reached within his own heart.
- The language of the heart has no words, but it may be expressed and understood by those with enough sensitivity and empathy.
- It is possible to use the truth without love, and this is a terrible thing.
- For most people, there is a perpetual war between the mind and the heart. However, it is possible to end this war and find peace.
- It is not possible to love one's neighbor as oneself until one has first learned to love oneself. And the way to love oneself is to understand deeply that we love because God first loved us. (1 John 4:19)
- The root of all anger is pain, and the root of all psychological pain is the lack of love. And so, our failure to love has far greater consequences than we might imagine.
- All words have and are carried by spirit. This even applies to the Word of God, Jesus Christ himself, who is carried by the holy spirit. The spirit behind the words we speak may be tested by 1 John 4:2-3, just like any other spirit.
- During a particularly difficult time in my life, the holy spirit answered three key questions for me: "Who am I, really?"; "What do I want, really?"; and "What is the purpose of life?" His answers, I learned, applied not only to me but for every human who will ever live. Pretty amazing, these; they had a significant impact on my life.
- I've learned a bit about how his Church is intended to function: the five ministries from Ephesians 4:11-13 are an inverted pyramid, exactly the opposite of a company's organizational chart. The myriad sheep are at the top, with fewer and fewer of each as one goes down to the apostles, with Jesus Christ himself as the cornerstone. This is a hierarchy of love and service, not of power and authority as humans understand these concepts, and each level has a particular -- and essential -- role, even today.
- He's given me some insight into the apparent conflict between his sovereignty and free will.
These are all things that I live and apply as his spirit directs when opportunities arise.
