Sleepless and pregnant

Here I am at the computer at 2:00 in the morning-ARRG!!!

Tomorrow is a bit of a big day for my wife and I. You see about 7 weeks ago we found out we're pregnant (that's an expression I never really got till now, but it's accurate), which isn't wholey surprising as we've been maried 3 1/2 years and not been trying to not get pregnant. That is until you realize the my amazing wife was born disabled and the doctors said she would likely never be able to conceive.

What you must understand is that from the moment my wife was born the doctors have been telling her and her parents all the things she would never do- "she'll never live", she's 31 years old- "she'll never walk", she walks- "she'll never graduate school", she graduated collage- "she'll never drive a car", she's a good driver- "she'll never have a child", she's pregnant- "she'll never amount to anything", in my opinion and others as well she's amounted to a whole heap. In short she's a miracle, my miracle. And tomorrow we get to go into the city to see a specialist and find out if she has passed on her disability, and what can be done to help reduce the impact on our child if that is the case.

Please don't misunderstand me disabled or not this child will be loved and treasured, but if there are preparations to be made we want to know to make them.

Another thing you should know is that my wife tries to advocate for folks with disabilities when ever she can, and she also speaks at schools periodically. At one such school she was talking to a class of daycare workers in training, and the question was asked "Didn't your mom get tested for this so she could do something about it?". My wife not quite understanding what the student meant by "it" asked her to clarify the question. The student re-worded the question to say "Well, if she got tested couldn't she have had an abortion?" And with that question the student degraded my wife's life and accomplishments to nothing but an inconvenience on her mother and society. That student looked my wife in the eye and told her she'd be better off dead.

Now to ask a single question, how is it when a christian says a human life is sacred and should not be violated and someone can look at someone else who has a disability and tell them they aren't worthy of life, it's the christian who is considered intolerant?
