Sky High (draft-intro)

Nam groaned as her alarm clock went off, beeping for her to get up. With her eyes still shut, she felt around on the bedstand until she found the snooze button and prssed it, and pulled her blankets around her again. However, she didn't get to sleep long because soon, her brother came into her room and pounced on her bed yelling "Wake up!".

Nam immediately sat up in her bed and tried to catch her brother, but he was off the bed and was out the door and shut it with a bang before she could grab him. "You little brat!" she yelled.

Yawning, Nam got out of her bed and began getting ready for school. By the time she was done dressing and brushing her hair, the smell of eggs was already wafting down the hallway to her bedroom.

Entering the kitchen, she saw her dad seated at the table, reading the newspaper and drinking his coffee. Her mother was busying herself around the kitchen, cleaning and occasionally scolding her brother not to eat so fast.

Nam sat down at the table and her mother placed a plate of eggs in front of her, along with a glass. Nam peered at her eggs suspiciously and poked them with a fork for a while before she actually started to eat them.

"So, are you excited?" her father asked.

"Excited? No."

"Well why not? This a great opportunity for you to learn to be a hero!"

"Well..."

Her father frowned. "This doesn't have anything to do with how you view you powers, does it?" he asked seriously.

Nam was silent for a moment before she finally replied, "My powers aren't impressive! I can't turn into metal and have super strength! All I can do is control and become water! It's just not a very impressive power..."

Her father shrugged. "At least you're still humanoid when you change. I knew someone that could become water like you, but he couldn't control water. As such, he just became a puddle."

Nam rolled her eyes. "Thanks, dad, that makes it so much better."

Her father shrugged. "Just trying to point out that's it not as bad as it seems. And I think you underestimate yourself."

Nam shrugged and went back to eating her meal, after which she watched as the water in the glass created a small whirlpool before her mother reminded her that she needed to catch the bus.

With a sigh, Nam grabbed the satchel she always toted around with her and walked out the door, wondering what horrors the first day of school held for her.
