The U.S. A. is a country that thrives on overcorrection. The great social wars are an example of this: The War of Drugs, War on Terror, Race Wars, War of Sexes, Mommy Wars, etcetera. This is not to say these “wars” are not justified to some extent, but even when societal pressures justify movements like Feminism and Civil Rights, Americans tend to overreach in an attempt to mend the problems.
I get it that modern men feel displaced. I am saddened by what passes as manhood in popular culture today. Men are portrayed as beer swilling, wrongly but strongly opinionated macho dads who allow ego and pride to come between themselves and any meaningful discourse with their families or as sex-driven metrosexual manchildren. Oh, and don’t forget the MTV Jackass inspired concoction of irresponsible, idiotic manhood.
