I said good-bye to my "lover" tonight. I meant for it to be slow and lingering; but instead it was fast and frantic - over before I knew it - just like most of our encounters. I admit that I feel a little lost now without my lover. My heart is rent in two; the depth of my sadness seems abysmal at the lost of my lover.
I know my "true love" is waiting for me, just as He has waited for me all my life. As part of me looks back longingly at what I now give up, I remind myself how fortunate I am that my true love forgives all of my transgressions. It is time for me to renew my vows to my true love as I begin my life anew with Him. It is He to whom I shall turn for comfort and validation. It is He with whom I want to grow old, and I pray that I will spend eternity with my true love.
Tonight I sing a new song to my true love.
Take my heart, O Lord, take my hopes and dreams.
Take my mind with all it's plans and schemes.
Give me nothing more than your love and grace.
These alone, O God, are enough for me.
Take my thoughts, O Lord, and my memory.
Take my tears, my joys, my liberty.
Give me nothing more than your love and grace.
These alone, O God, are enough for me.
I surrender, Lord, all I have and hold.
I return to you your gifts untold.
Give me nothing more than your love and grace.
These alone, O God, are enough for me.
When the darkness falls on my final days,
Take the very breath that sang your praise.
Give me nothing more than your love and grace.
These alone, O God, are enough for me.
