Perseverance
Londis Carpenter
Of those among mankind I most admire
Are such who've overcome the saddest grief,
And men who pulled themselves out of the mire
After their lives had crashed upon the reef.
A Phoenix who has risen from the fire,
A broken heart that’s brave beyond belief,
These are men to whom my soul would aspire.
No matter if of sinners they are chief.
It’s not how many times a man may fail,
But how many times that he will still assail
His many untold grief’s, too foul to mention--
The demons out to foil his best intention.
It's heroes, such as these, who pierce life’s veil,
And by their perseverance shall prevail.
And unadorned with medals of pretension--
I find these all are men of great invention.
