I actually learned this Psalm at age 6, and that learning this Psalm represented a tiny seed that was planted in me, even though I was in a false Religion for 40 years from birth. I am just shy of 69 years of age right now.
This Psalm I immediately remembered when my only son died and his death caused me to seek Christ and realize His Peace that He offers us. I very soon thereafter, denied the false Religion [with its other so-called “scripture”], that I was trapped in---- and have been seeking more of Christ for around 28 years now.
I do believe that Holy Spirit can sometimes cause us to remember what was the “catalyst” for our Faith in God. This Psalm happened to be my early seed of Faith where that seed lay dormant in me for many years and suddenly through the deepest pain in my life---God caused the increase. I actually can remember reciting the first 3 verses of this Psalm over-and-over to myself about an hour after my son died.
Psalm 23:1-3
23 The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
As I was outside sitting on my lawn in my deep shock while the EMT’s were taking out my son’s body from our house---- the relevance of He makes me lie down in green pastures came to my mind as well as the promise of He restores my soul.
Afterwards, of course, I found more of this Peace in immersing myself into more of His Word that day, where a huge Hunger for His Word developed in me.
I do believe that is why God called me to teach Children’s Sunday School for 6 year in our Church. That we, as teachers, can plant a tiny seed in a child that God will eventually cause an increase in them from His Word. Even though I do not teach anymore, I believe one can share Bible verses with children that may or may not be a seed of a Faith that will grow.
God’s Word has an Awesome Power and of course in my case, so many of the other Biblical Truths can become evident later.
Romans 10:17
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Luke 4:4
But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ ”
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
