8 “Or what woman, having ten silver [c]coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!’ 10 Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
Last week, I did not lose a coin but a set of keys. I searched high and low for them and retraced my steps over-and- over for the day they came up missing. Even did some deep cleaning around the house, as my wife says “whenever I lose something, I generally clean and I find whatever it is was looking for”-----similar to this woman who sweeps her house. I even dusted under the refrigerator.
These keys were not easily replaceable or at least one was not. One was a post office key [for my mailbox]and the other was a key to a house, that I take care of for a man who lives far away and his lawn needed to be watered. And I had to get into the house to turn the automatic sprinklers on as the lawn was getting very dry. Only had one copy of his key and it was going to be a few days until I could have him send me another and of course I would have to admit I lost his key.
Two of my Christians friends prayed with me, with one insisting that I would find them. He seemed to give me the confidence I needed and then, low and behold I found them almost immediately---inside my post office box when I opened it with a new key that I purchased, that I needed anyway.
I immediately called each of my two friends who prayed with me over this situation and we rejoiced together.
This reminded me of the woman with the lost coin and how much more joyful are the angels in heaven when one sinner repents. We can have big and little trying experiences in life and, if we can reflect of a similar situation in the Bible, it helps us grow as a Believer.
