A few weekends ago at my church service the pastor gave a great sermon about the glory of God. At the end he challenged us to all share with someone, something God has done in our life that we know could have only been accomplished by God.
So here is my ONLY GOD story:
My wife and I were both new to the city of Chicago and for the first year or so we were here we didn’t have any real close friendships and no community within a church. We were attending a church but we had no community within it.
One day at church they announced free food being given away for the 20 something group they had. We visited it only because of the free food (and because we were 20 something). While there we met someone who lived just a block from us, even though the church we were attending was a 45 minute drive.
Because of that connection we stayed in touch with her. A little while later she asked us to join her and the 20 something group on a retreat in Wisconsin. We decided to go but would never have gone if we didn’t know her.
So we packed up to go and took our dog with us (dropped her off at a kennel near the hotel rather than in Chicago because it was much cheaper). When we arrived at the hotel something happened that was a little upsetting to my wife and me. It was upsetting enough that we decided to go back home. We called the Kennel that we were just at less than an hour ago and they were closed so we could not pick her up until the morning. So we went back to the hotel and joined everyone.
Well, it ended up that we met some great people that all lived near us and we all started to meet every Sunday evening for small group. Because of this small group, we have made some great friendships. And about 4 years later, we still have those friendships. The group has lost some people and we have added people over the years, but we still meet every Sunday evening and we are all growing in our relationship with God.
There were a lot of occasions in this story that could have easily kept us from getting to the great ending. But God had a plan and ONLY GOD could have made all this happen.
