Obey

Friday, August 14, 2009, 2:30 p.m. – I was lying down praying when I had this VISION: I was standing outside, looking up to a window on the side of a building, when I saw the letters O B E Y spelled out, i.e. cut out of the side of the building as though each letter was a window. Then, I saw water (or tears) flowing out of each of the letters. END The song “Trust and Obey” was going through my head:

Trust and Obey / John H. Sammis / Daniel B. Towner

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet.
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way.
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. I read Jeremiah 40:1-6:

The word came to Jeremiah from the LORD after Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard had released him at Ramah. He had found Jeremiah bound in chains among all the captives from Jerusalem and Judah who were being carried into exile to Babylon. 2 When the commander of the guard found Jeremiah, he said to him, "The LORD your God decreed this disaster for this place. 3 And now the LORD has brought it about; he has done just as he said he would. All this happened because you people sinned against the LORD and did not obey him. 4 But today I am freeing you from the chains on your wrists. Come with me to Babylon, if you like, and I will look after you; but if you do not want to, then don't come. Look, the whole country lies before you; go wherever you please." 5 However, before Jeremiah turned to go, Nebuzaradan added, "Go back to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the towns of Judah, and live with him among the people, or go anywhere else you please."

Then the commander gave him provisions and a present and let him go. 6 So Jeremiah went to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah and stayed with him among the people who were left behind in the land.

My Understanding: All of these trials and tribulations that we are presently facing as a nation have come upon us just as the Lord had decreed that it would. All this is happening because the people of God here in America have sinned against God and have not obeyed him, just as Israel did not obey God. Yet, the Lord’s desire is still to free us from the chains on our wrists. And, he is still calling us to OBEY!

Often a building is a symbol of the church - not a physical building but rather the building of God, his kingdom, which is comprised of the people of God. A window is often a figure of divine revelation, as is found in God’s holy word, the Bible. We are that building, so he is carving into our hearts, minds and lives the words of God that he wants us to hear which is “OBEY.”

I believe the water flowing out of those letters are the tears of God being shed for us because we have not obeyed and because of the suffering he knows he must bring upon us in order to bring about that obedience.
