Years ago I attended my grandfather’s funeral. Story after story people expressed their gratitude for his loving kindness. As I listened closely, Mark 12:30-31 continued to come to my mind. Until finally, I felt compelled to go up to the podium to share what the Lord had placed on my heart. But, unlike the others I wasn’t there to reminisce about my grandfather but instead to glorify the Lord's name.
I was lead to share that "love" was the one commonality from every story and that it is imperative not to let the Lord’s love we experienced through my grandfather's life to be in vain.
So often, we meet people that lovingly impress our hearts in a special way only to be forgotten within days. Take a moment to think of a person that has impressed you in such a major way, that if embraced would have caused your heart before the Lord to change. But unfortunately, what the Lord purposed for you to learn seems merely in vain.
However, as Christians, encounters should never be received in vain but rather wisely embraced as an opportunity from the Lord to love Him and others more and more every day. As you bear fruits of love into people's lives don’t forget to cherish the love the Lord ordered to be beared into your life.
May His love never be received in vain.
