Science now confirms the two.Leucippus of Samosata and Democritus argue for materialism that now has more support. Leucippus argues rightly for necessity instead of teleology.
The pre-Socratics still prevail as to their arguments for mechanism being right!
Had they back then have prevailed against the teleologists, perhaps Europe would have made scientific gains much earlier!
