The pain for her was far too great
Too much this time to hide
She cried, “There’s no more time to wait”
That I should come inside
“My child, I have so much to tell
So much with you to share
Though your mother is not too well
I’m not too sick to care”
She smiled at me and winked her eye
“It’s good you’re here today
It won’t be long before I die
So heed these words I say”
The bible quick was in her hand
Out loud she read from John
“Now try my child to understand
Allow God’s will be done”
How come; I thought is she not sad?
What could this woman know?
That even death can make her glad?
Can bring her eyes to glow?
I asked if she were not afraid
Her smile began to grow
She said, “Through Christ my debt is paid
To Him my child I go
Although this flesh may see the grave
My soul! in Christ is free
You too my child, He’s here to save
So you can live, like me”
Twas then I knew, I’d been so blind
But now she’d made me see
God’s word in her, had blown my mind
