Misinformation About the Quran

Some critics attack the Quran’s description of mountains being like pegs
The Quran (78:7) tells us the mountains are as pegs. Some critics have made ignorant attacks against this nolbe Quranic verse. Their attack is personified by a secular critic (named SK Mirza) who attacked this part of the Quran very enthusiastically and with much passion by stating:
“Ancient people viewed mountains as pegs. This is just stupid and utter ignorance about the very creation of mountain” (1)
Howevre, if we look beyond this man’s enthusiasm and passion we realise his claim is ignorant as mountains are in fact like pegs.
“A book entitled Earth is a basic reference textbook in many universities around the world. One of its two authors is Professor Emeritus Frank Press. He was the Science Advisor to former US President Jimmy Carter, and for 12 years was the President of the National Academy of Sciences, Washington, DC. His book says that mountains have underlying roots(2). These roots are deeply embedded in the ground, thus, mountains have a shape like a peg.”(4)
Thus; “modern earth sciences have proven that mountains have deep roots under the surface of the ground (see figure 9) and that these roots can reach several times their elevations above the surface of the ground (3). So the most suitable word to describe mountains on the basis of this information is the word ‘peg,’ since most of a properly set peg is hidden under the surface of the ground.” (2) (Please note, figure 9 can be viewed in the book ‘A brief Illustrated Guide to Understanding Islam’ or the website in the recommended further reading)
So, just to summarize, we realise that the critic is woefully incorrect again and we witness something that seems to be a geological miracle in the Quran. The other point to note is the scientific ignorance of the critic which renders their claims misleading and unscholarly, the irony is immense!
