Merry Christmas

Sunday, April 26, 2009, 10:11 p.m. – I lay in bed trying to go to sleep when this song kept going on in my head over and over again. I tried singing something different, but it kept coming back:

We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year.

And, then this one:

Feliz Navidad
Feliz Navidad
Feliz Navidad
Prospero Ano y Felicidad.

I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas
I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas
I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas
From the bottom- of my heart.

I was praying for my husband at the time, for our marriage, for some spiritual warfare issues and for deliverance for him from bondage to a signature sin. All of a sudden I became aware that this song was playing in the back of my mind. So, since I could not sleep, I decided to get up and to talk with the Lord about it. Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. I read Hebrews 4:14-5:1-10:

Jesus the Great High Priest
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. 16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Every high priest is selected from among men and is appointed to represent them in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. 3This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.

4No one takes this honor upon himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was. 5So Christ also did not take upon himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him,
"You are my Son;
today I have become your Father." 6And he says in another place,
"You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek."

7During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. 8Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered 9and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him 10and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

My Understanding: Every day is Christmas if we truly understand the true meaning of why we celebrate Christmas. The best gift of all was Jesus and what he did for us in dying for our sins so that we could be set free! Amen!!

So, Merry Christmas – Jesus was born and he died on a cross, he was buried and he rose again and ascended into heaven and is sitting at the right hand of the Father. He conquered death, sin and hell so that we don’t have to live according to the sinful nature any longer! Amen!!

Yet, Jesus did not come to earth and become man just so that he could die for our sins alone. He was very God and yet very man. That means that he was tempted in every way that we are, yet he was without sin. But, because of that, he can sympathize with us in our weaknesses – he knows what we are going through, because he went through it, too. So, when we are tempted or when we are going through a time of trial or testing, we can approach God with confidence and receive his mercy and grace to help us during our time of need.

Jesus paid it all, all to him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain, he washed it white as snow.

V. 9 says this: and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him…

Jesus wants our obedience. He didn’t die on the cross for our sins so that we could continue in them. He died to set us FREE! We will never be completely free until we get to heaven, but we don’t have to live under bondage or the control of sin in our lives because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. That is the best Christmas present anyone can ever give any one of us. And, it was God who gave us his one and Only Son to be a blood sacrifice for us so that we can walk in freedom and in victory over sin. Amen!!

So, Merry Christmas – Jesus won the victory!! And, it is ours to whomever will come to Him in faith, repentance and obedience. The scriptures teach us this:

Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.” [Luke 9:23-24 NIV]

If you have not trusted Jesus as your Lord and Savior this evening, I pray that you will make that decision tonight to let Jesus be your Savior and the Lord (the one in charge) of your life. If you know Jesus but you are struggling with a signature sin or a sinful habit – something that has been holding you in bondage for a long time – I pray that you will go to God with confidence to receive grace and mercy in your time of need. I pray that you will realize that Jesus paid it all! Amen!! And, I pray that you will turn from your sin, and that you will turn to God in faith and obedience and that you will find victory over sin and the devil and that Jesus will set you FREE! AMEN!

P.S. I just happened to notice that last Sunday the Lord gave me a message "Like Christmas" where I also had a Christmas song - "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" which was then followed by "O Sacred Head Now Wounded."
