Marching Orders

Remember the old hymn?
“Onward Christian soldiers
Marching as to war
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before.”
We don’t address very often the Church Militant. Too negative a topic they say. Let’s focus on the loveliness of the life.
Tell that to the mother whose child has just been found a suicide. The young father struggling with lay-off and receiving only postured pleasantries from every job interview.
There is a war, and it is not with people who do not think as we do. They are fellow travellers on this planet and deserving of every respect and consideration.
The battle is with the fear and deception concocted by the Devil and his minions. A voice whispers over the shoulder, “You know God is behind that abusive father of yours. He is there and he sees all the mess and he does nothing. Tell me that there is any love or truth in that. Who needs him; who wants him?”
Just such a lie is perpetrated in so many ways. And the victim, if overcome by the Prince of Darkness, walks away from comfort, truth, love and rescue. Doubly the slave to Satan.
That is the field of battle. Deception. Unbelief. Self-pity. Lust. Unforgiveness.
Strategies involve agreement in prayer, faithful living and testimony, the helping hand, the affirming look and much patience.
