Lust of the Eye's

Luke 11:34- The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

When we fill our eyes with evil and darkness, we fill the body with the same. But when our eyes are focused on the Lord we will fill our body with Light

Kind of like the saying garbage in garbage out. Which can also refer to what you hear. Turn on your radio, or T.V. now a days. You will be filled quickly with adultery, idolatry, murder, drugs, alcohol, greed and about everything else you can think of.
Think you will be walking in the spirit after a day of worldly T.V. and radio.

Lets look at a couple sins in the Bible from lust of the eyes.

Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, ,…….

Now I could stop right there because it should say enough that the fall of man was caused by what looked pleasant to the eyes.

Now the devil also played a part. One in lying and corrupting Gods Words. But he also knows our weaknesses. Our flesh, I think one big one is the lust of our eyes. For he knows what looks good to each of us and will use it. He will use what looks good in our eyes to cause us to sin. Before the curse I am sure the serpent was very beautiful and probably so was the fruit.

Lets look at another sin of many.

2 Sam 11:2 And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.

Now we all know how great David was in faith and things of God. He killed a giant with a stone with faith in God, we all should know that story. But here we see a giant that got david, starting with something of beautiful to look upon.

Kind of same thing the devils uses today in TV. advertisement and basically everything else. He tells the lost this is what you want drink this beverage, alcohol, buy this. All this stuff showing you a good time with friends and models. Like the saying I know everyone heard. Sex sells. And the sad part is it does. They don’t show the bad stuff. The hangovers, the way you can’t think, the drunk drivers that kill a family. The way you think this will fill the hole in your life. But what you don’t notice it only makes it bigger, and makes you look for something else. Which leads your eyes searching for the next thing that looks good.

Proverbs 27:20 Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

The Bible states sin is pleasure for a season. I lived in them seasons. It’s not worth it.

I have chose
Heb 11:25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Right before that it says “ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” Now we should love the people of the world but not sin the that is in the world as stated in 2:16.

What you see in the world will not make you happy or fill that empty filling. They will keep filling their body with darkness until we show them the light of Christ so they can fill that empty feeling they have inside. This world is full of fleshly lust. We need to keep our eye’s on Christ.

The devil temped Christ with lust of the eye’s.
Mathew 4:8-9 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

Notice he didn’t just tell Jesus these things he showed him. I bet it was a beautiful site. Tried to get Jesus to sin with lust of the eyes, and skip his suffering on Calvary and act upon himself to get what he came to suffer for. But Jesus defeated the devil with the sword.

The devil uses attractive bait to try and get us hooked. We need to look past the bait and see the hook.

What should we do, well we always need to pray and keep scripture in our mind but lets look at a some scripture.
Don’t look at sin.
Psalms 119:37 Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.

Even alcohol.
Proverbs 23:30-35 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

Psalms 101: 3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

Matthew 5:29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

I am not saying to pluck out your eye. But get rid of temptation. If you are having problems looking at stuff on you computer its more profitable to destroy your computer then to have the sin ruin your life. Same with you T.V. and etc… get rid of the temptation.

If you are on a diet, when you go to the grocery store you try not to buy anything that will temp you to brake your diet. Don’t put anything in front of your eye’s that will cause you to sin.

Growing up I lived that life, big rims on my car at a young age. Seeing what money can buy and lusting after it. I had some very close friends die over it. One shot and killed, another died on a fast bike. The rest in jail or on drugs. I wouldn’t even call it pleasure for a season.

My question is what are we letting our eyes fill our body with? Better yet what are we letting our children fill their body with? We need to keep our eyes focused on Christ, so them that see us can see the light in the darkness. So they can see that we don’t follow the things of the devil, the things he is promoting on T.V. and in the world. Make it known that our hole being filled, and we need nothing else to fill it. That we are happy and don’t need nothing of this world to make us happy.

Lets keep our eyes focused on Christ and keep our children’s eyes on the things of the light and not the darkness.

If your lost, there is only one way I know of to brake the bondage of your sin’s and lust. That’s the power of Christ.
