Every now and again, on internet forums and social networking utilities and so on and thus forth, the question arises to most people of religious affiliation, just out of curiosity...
And of course, some will say "I would of course die," and others will say "I simply don't know what would happen if I were in that situation"... But you know what answer I very rarely see, and the answer that I would gravitate to without question?
"All right. I renounce God. Detest the guy. Can I go now?"
Do people really think that just by saying "I renounce God, I detest God, I leave God behind" to a man with a gun to your head, to save your own life, is of disrespect to Divinity? Is God so small that He doesn't know your mind and heart? Do people really think a few mortal-life words changes the God's adoration for His creations?
I personally would think the people who would choose to die, give the appearance of far-less-faith in God than the people who would choose to simply state words that mean nothing, and live out the rest of their God-given life for God; rather than die and be of no further use as He intended of you. I have more respect for a person that disregards mortal communication in favor of the Divine alternative ("Hey, God, it's me.. listen I'm just gonna tell this lunatic whatever it takes, because this is so not worth losing my entire life over... a'ight?").
If I were God... and of course, we all know that I have the potential
haha... I would be far more disappointed in my creations if they laid down the life I had given them as a gift, for the meaningless mortal demands of a lunatic. Don't get me wrong, it's not the same as though you are laying down your life to save another person either, that in my eyes is different in scope. It is quite honorable to jump in front of a bus to push a person out of the way, and lose your life in the process. This isn't a waste, but...
To go down, all because you didn't want to appear unfaithful... in the eyes of man? Because God's mind won't be changed on your commitment over your words, the only person you put up a front for... is man. God doesn't care as much as people seem to think, with regard to the words coming out of your mouth. He cares a lot more about what is in your head, your mind, your thoughts, your hearts, your prayers. If you renounced God, and you meant it? You already had that going for you prior to a lunatic with a gun ever showing up, and yes, you have a problem at that point.
But... your heart doesn't change based on the words out of your mouth.
I choose life, I'm sorry if that seems "unfaithful" to some... but I see it as honoring my life and God in the process.
