Wednesday, June 10, 2009, 3:36 p.m. – I lay down for a nap. I had this song going through my head, so I Googled the lyrics. I found half of what was in my head in one song and half in another, both of them sung by the group Avalon. No matter how much I tried separating the two songs in my mind, they still overlapped each other. I heard, “I always have, I always will,” so “live your life, the world will wonder why.” Here are the two songs:
Always Have, Always Will / Avalon
Part of me is the prodigal
Part of me is the other brother
But I think the heart of me
Is really somewhere between them
Some days I'm running wild
Some days we're reconciled
But I wonder all the while
Why you put up with me, when...
I wrestle most days
To find ways to do as I please
I always have, I always will
You saved me once, You save me still
My longing heart, Your love alone can fill
You always have, always will
I was born with a wayward heart
Still I live with a restless spirit
My soul is so well worn
You'd think I'd have arrived by now
I'm caught in the trappings of
My search for lasting love
I've made mistakes enough
To last me a lifetime
I still slip, I still fall
But I'll always run back to you
I'm gonna keep trusting You
I see what You've seen me through
I'm goin' where You have gone (yeah)
I'm letting You lead me on
All my days (always and forever)
Never far (never leave me never)
Here I'll stay (ever love me ever)
Here's my heart
I'll always love You, love You (yeah)
Oh, You always have, You always will
Wonder Why / Avalon
Why, why, tell me do you wonder why
Some can look so hard and miss the truth
Some will stumble over it a hundred times
And never ever see the living proof
Well, there's a kind of love the world could never deny
Let everybody see it in our lives
The world will wonder why
If you and I will shine His light
And hearts will discover life when we decide
To let ours go
We've got to give it up
And live the love
That opened our eyes
Live your life
The world will wonder why
Why, why, someone try and tell me why
We would want it any other way
A heart could change before our very eyes
Well, I've seen the difference love can make
Where is the kind of love this world could never explain
It's time to live the gospel unashamed
If we were living with a passion
What would be the reaction
I know a single heart can change the world
If we were loving with a strong love
Then their eyes would see
And the world might believe
Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. I read Revelation 22:
My Understanding: Jesus is coming soon! Worship God!! Obey Him!!
This first song is about a prodigal who is struggling between pleasing God and pleasing self – somewhere in between the brother who remained and the prodigal who left – sounds like the church in Laodicea that is neither hot nor cold but is lukewarm, and so the Lord is about to spit them out of his mouth. The “always have, always will” has to do with wrestling “most days to find ways to do as I please.”
The second song is about how people can miss the truth. They can stumble over it a hundred times and never ever see the living proof. The living proof is Jesus lived out in our lives. If we live our lives to please Jesus instead of to please ourselves, the world may wonder why. It’s time to live the gospel unashamed. If we are living with a passion for the Lord, what would be the reaction?
Jesus is coming soon! Many people live without Jesus. Many live as prodigals or as the half-way between a prodigal and a committed Christian, i.e. in that lukewarm state. They need Jesus. We need to let the light of Jesus shine through our lives. We need to live the gospel unashamed. Time is running short. Many people need Jesus!
