“And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her. -Genesis 29:20-
Rachel typified the Bride of Messiah and the love that Jacob had for her leaves us a perfect example of what it means to consecrate ones life. Jacob was able to endure seven years of service to her father and because of his selfless love, it seemed to him only a few days.
As consecrated Christians, we too must live a life of sacrifice and service to Yahweh. But we can only accomplish this if our motivation is love for Yahweh and our brothers and sisters. Jacob gives us another example of voluntary consecration or self sacrifice by tithing a full tenth of what he has in Gen 28:22. Jacob represents the consecrated and Torah Keeping Christians in this age and sets before us a fine example of self sacrifice driven by love. Yahshua the Messiah also tells us how we can make our loads become lighter in Matthew 11:28-30. Yahshua shows us that when it becomes natural for us to put others first our burdens will become light. We can only assume that Jacob’s self sacrifice he endured, because of the love he had for Rachel, is what caused seven years to feel like mere days. Jacob didn’t dwell on his burdens, nor did he ever look back on what he was sacrificing (Gen 19:26).
We too must not look back on what we leave behind; for the sufferings we go through do not even begin to compare to the glory that awaits us (Romans 8:18; 1 John 3:2).
