Is Ignorance Bliss?

What you don't know won't hurt you. This saying is often bandied about. Yes it is true, but does that give another person the right to take advantage of your blissful ignorance? Why should we trust any other human? What if suspicion arises, whether justified or not? Is this not a cancer? So, is ignorance bliss, or can it lead to more destructive thoughts and behaviours? Is truth then not the ultimate grace?

Truth can sometimes be hard, but in the long run, is it not better than living a delusion? It is a rare person that is capable of maintaining an ongoing cover of their true self, this in spite of what they themselves may think of their deceitful abilities. It is our human characteristic of 'self' that leads some to believe they can lead double lives simply by self-justifying their reasons for doing so. What's the harm if key people in their lives remain ignorant of the truth? Yet they themselves know they are attempting a con or they wouldn't feel the need to hide their actions or motives. In true human fashion, mankind takes the knowledge of good and evil, and while helping themselves to whatever it is they wish, they at the same time usually find their personal gain comes at an expense to another. Sadly, many don't care enough to reconsider their actions. They've put themselves first, the ultimate sin. Deceit has consequences for all involved, but the perpetrator will face judgment for their deeds, and forgiveness is not always forthcoming from man nor God, no matter what they may hope.

There is a price to be paid for being on the loving all as self end of the stick. Whether in a personal relationship or in business dealings, the default way of man is to put oneself first. The one who loves the most is most often the one who pays the price. It is a tough road to stay on, this narrow path to the Kingdom. Our pain while here, will yes, lead to reward in the Kingdom for remaining loyal. If we come to find that no one else is true to us, then we must remain true to ourselves and our beliefs in the ways of the Kingdom. Its ways were never meant to fit into a world that thrives on opposing principles.

Obviously then, ignorance is not bliss. Truth is, for as any deception grows, so does the pain to be dealt with when the delusion fails. A perpetrator should consider that they may lessen the judgment on themselves, having come clean sooner than later. Truth at least will shorten that growth of deception, making the results less painful proportionally, allowing us all to move forward in this contemptible world, having wasted less time on a lie.
