Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
John 13:19
In a society more akin to the physical world that to the spiritual, many of us are looking for signs and wonders when in fact Jesus said that they would follow us. We often ask for signs to know whether to do something or not. Sometimes we ask God to 'prove' Himself (which could end up being disastrous).
What does Jesus Christ have to do for you to know that He is who He says He is? We have believed by faith that we have been saved and are no longer candidates for hell. But while on earth, do we believe He loves us despite of what we have or don't seem to have? Do we believe that He has good plans for us? ALL THE TIME despite what the devil throws at us? Are we fazed when things don't go our way? Do we look for alternatives when He says we trust in HIM.
When God says we trust Him and wait upon Him on any given issue, what is our response? Are we chasing after gods/idols?
A dictionary definition of the term idol is; IDOL :
(n.) 1. a material effigy that is worshipped; graven image; god; 2. an ideal instance; a perfect embodiment of a concept; paragon; perfection; beau ideal; 3. someone who is adored blindly and excessively; matinee idol;
Basically, it refers to an imitation of the real deal. If God is our provider, why are we chasing after other 'providers'? If God is our healer? If He is our refuge?
It seems like a tough pill to swallow, but the truth is we are often chasing after idols instead of trusting in God.
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Ps 46:10
Another translation puts it this way:
He says, "Stop your striving and recognize that I am God! I will be exalted over the nations! I will be exalted over the earth!"
Ps 46:10
Is God God in our lives? Why are we striving when He says we be still? Why do we think that we can do a better job than Him? Is worrying going to get me whatever it is I am worrying about? Is it going to resolve the issue? It will NOT! So the question again is, why do we persist in it?
Let us let God be God and believe Him at His Word.
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Num 23:19
You're blessed!!!
