Religion causes us to serve a God who is a hypocrite. A hypocrite is a person, who does not practice the instruction they give to others. In Luke chapter six, Jesus gives us an amazing description about the character and nature of God. Jesus instructs His followers to love their enemies, to do good to those that hate them, bless those that curse them, and to pray for those who hurt them. Yet, modern day religiosity believes that God hates His enemies. Of course, this would make God a hypocrite, because, He would command us to do something that He is not willing to do Himself.
Religion has created a God, who hates His enemies and is quick to judge those who don’t measure up to His standards. Religion has created a God, which only loves those that love Him only. If you are good to Him, he will be good to you. If you bless him, he will bless you. Religion has created an idol, which brings natural disasters upon the unbelieving world.
We have come to believe in a God that asked us to love, do good, bless, and pray for our enemies, yet He hates, does bad, and curses His. I’ve heard Preachers tell stories about how God has taken care of their enemies. Some have even led me to believe that God killed them for them. Touch not the Lord’s anointed they say.
The truth is, God is not a hypocrite, He asks us to love our enemies because He does. He asks us to do good and bless those that curse us, because that’s what He does. The God that tells us not to judge people, He Himself does not judge people. Jesus said, “if any man hears my words, and believes not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.” This might be a revelation, but people decide their own destinies. If Christ didn't come to judge others, how can we believe in a God that does.
Jesus tells us not to condemn others because God doesn't. Jesus said, “God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” Luke gives an account of Jesus on His way to Jerusalem. It seems, that Jesus wanted to past through a village of Samaria, but the Bible says, that they did not want to receive Jesus, because, He was going to Jerusalem. His disciples asked if they should call fire down from heaven and consume them like Elijah did to the captain and his fifty. Here is Jesus’ response, “he turned, and rebuked them, and said you know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them,” and they went to another village.
God loves those who do not love Him. In fact He loves those who probably never love Him. This is the character and the nature of God. God blesses the unthankful and the wicked, He causes the sun to shine on both the just and the unjust. He asks us to forgive, because, He forgives. The God that we have come to believe in is a hideous monster. Many Christian’s have been serving a god that acts more like the Satan.
